Chinese smart glasses maker Rokid plans Hong Kong IPO: sources

Rokid, a Hangzhou-based smart glasses maker, is preparing to file for a Hong Kong IPO as early as the end of April as AI eyewear draws more interest, according to people familiar with the matter.

The move comes as Apple, Meta, Alibaba, Baidu, Xiaomi, and Huawei move into the category, while Beijing-based AR glasses maker Xreal filed for a Hong Kong listing last week.

Founded in 2014, Rokid makes industrial and consumer AR glasses, as well as AI glasses with cameras, audio, real-time translation, teleprompting, navigation, and eye-scanning payment features.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Behind the IPO filing is a billion-dollar valuation and demand signals from crowdfunding

  • Rokid reached a US$1 billion valuation by November 2023 after raising US$228 million in venture funding 1.
  • Company figures put 2025 revenue at US$20.4 million, supported by a workforce of 147 employees 2.
  • Crowdfunding added another proof point, with US$4,028,111 raised on Kickstarter plus more than NT$62 million (US$1.9 million) in Taiwan pre-orders on zeczec, a Taiwanese crowdfunding platform 3, 4.
  • Reviews frame Rokid Max 2 as a lower-priced option at US$429 and more comfortable than XReal One Pro from rival company Xreal, while falling behind on optics and out-of-the-box AR features 5.

The listing ties into a hardware funding race and a go-to-market playbook

  • The planned IPO filing, after a similar filing from rival Xreal, tracks a capital grab by augmented reality glasses makers aiming to scale before Apple and Meta take more of the market.
  • Rokid puts more weight on industrial deployments in manufacturing and healthcare, where near-term sales can be clearer than consumer AR 1.
  • Examples include remote collaboration and AI-powered inspections, pitched to enterprise buyers as ways to cut delays and reduce rework 2.
  • Kickstarter traction maps out an approach for hardware startups that want early buyers, public feedback, and international reach before pursuing a public listing 3.
