SK hynix jumps 12.7% as Barclays starts coverage
SK hynix, a South Korea-based memory chipmaker, saw its shares rise as much as 12.7% in Seoul on July 15.
The gain followed overnight gains in US technology stocks after softer-than-expected US inflation data.
Barclays also provided an additional boost after initiating coverage of the company’s newly listed American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) in the US.
Barclays began coverage with an overweight rating and a US$330 price target.
SK hynix’s ADRs had surged nearly 28% to US$193.92 on Nasdaq on July 14.
The move followed weeks of volatility in memory stocks.
Investors have weighed strong AI-driven demand against concerns that earnings growth for conventional memory chips could slow as quarterly price increases moderate in the second half of 2026.
Industry data cited by SK hynix said the company held a 62% share of high-bandwidth memory shipments in Q2 2025.
Separately, TrendForce said 8Gb DDR4 chip prices fell 35.7% from July to late November 2024 amid oversupply and weak demand.
