Singtel to launch sovereign AI data security service in SG

Singtel Digital InfraCo‘s sovereign AI cloud RE:AI announced a partnership with Cohesity to offer an intelligent, sovereign AI data security and management service in Singapore.

The service lets enterprises search and query archived backup data while keeping sensitive information protected and within Singapore’s regulatory environment.

Cohesity will contribute R&D resources to Singtel Digital InfraCo’s Centre of Excellence for Applied AI with Nvidia.

The service will catalogue and index years of backups, enabling real-time searches, reconstructing historical states for audits, and supporting incident response during events like ransomware attacks.

It is available in single- and multi-tenant configurations for regulated sectors including financial services, healthcare, and government.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Singtel is part of Cohesity’s wider sovereign cloud push

  • This partnership fits Cohesity’s broader effort to build a sovereign cloud ecosystem, rather than a standalone Singapore deal 1.
  • Cohesity works with AntemetA (a French IT services provider) and Singtel, plus Micrologic (a Canadian IT services provider) in Canada, to meet data residency needs and sovereign cloud data protection requirements 1.
  • The network also includes large cloud platforms, with Cohesity serving as a launch partner for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud plus a certified Google Cloud Ready Regulated and Sovereignty Solutions partner 1.

Backup data is being treated as an AI asset alongside protection

  • The service goes past basic data protection by turning archived backup data into input for AI search plus insights 2.
  • Cohesity has announced federated semantic search via the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard that helps AI systems connect to external data and tools, so AI enterprise tools such as Glean (an enterprise search platform) can securely access governed backup data without duplicating it 3.
  • This shift pushes data management vendors to adapt, since some customers now want business value from secure data copies as well as recovery after an attack 2.
