SG chip equipment startup Applied Angstrom opens R&D hub

Applied Angstrom Technology (AAT), a Singapore firm that makes atomic precision manufacturing equipment, opened an R&D facility in Yishun on March 18 to design, test, and produce next-generation semiconductor tools.

AAT said the Atomic Precision Innovation Center is over 10,000 sq ft, includes a cleanroom, and has operated since November 2025.

Dr Richard Yang said the firm aims to enable chipmakers to produce chips for AI data centers and is targeting Singapore-based firms such as Micron and GlobalFoundries.

Investor iGlobe Partners and Enterprise Singapore backed the facility, with iGlobe chair Philip Yeo saying it strengthens Singapore’s position in the global AI race.

Singapore accounts for about 20% of global semiconductor equipment production and makes roughly one in 10 of the world’s chips while the government plans about US$800 million for an RIE semiconductor flagship.

Separately Endress+Hauser opened a calibration and technology hub in Jurong on March 18 to support product calibration training and customer collaboration in Southeast Asia.

  • Applied Angstrom Technology focuses on atomic layer etching (ALE), which removes material in extremely thin layers to support advanced chip designs such as 3D logic and memory chips, plus silicon photonics chips (which use light to move data on a chip) 1.
