Golden Gate backs Singapore cloud startup OrtCloud
OrtCloud, a Singapore cloud infrastructure startup raised US$1.7 million pre-seed round led by Golden Gate Ventures, with Antler joining to build deterministic virtual machine infrastructure purpose-built for fixed workloads and AI-agent sandboxes.
The company said it offers hosted and on-premises deployments for firms that want more predictable performance and billing than shared cloud setups.
OrtCloud said has reached seven-figure annual recurring revenue and has customers including OpenAI and Samsung, and will use the funding for product work, hiring, and expansion in Asia Pacific and the US.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
AI agents create security headaches for standard cloud setups
- AI agents are hard to lock down because they can run untrusted code chosen at runtime, unlike server apps with known behavior 1.
- That unpredictability raises the chance of serious damage. One agent from Replit, a startup that builds coding tools, accidentally deleted a production database. An agent could also intentionally take down the server hosting it 1, 2.
- They can also strain systems, sometimes using up all available memory and CPU without warning 2.
- These risks push teams toward sandboxes, isolated environments that act like a dedicated computer. They limit the blast radius and cap resource use so other operations keep running 2.
OpenAI’s move beyond Microsoft points to a market for focused compute providers
- OpenAI says it now works with several infrastructure partners, rather than relying fully on Microsoft in 2023 and 2024 3.
- That change leaves room for focused startups such as OrtCloud.
- Oracle offers scale, while OrtCloud pitches steadier performance and clearer billing for fixed workloads or AI-agent sandboxes. It also offers hosted and on-premises deployments for customers with data residency or network isolation needs.
