Sequoia backs ex-Twitter CEO’s AI startup with $100m
Parallel Web Systems, an AI startup founded by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, has raised a US$100 million series B led by Sequoia at a US$2 billion valuation.
The raise comes five months after its US$100 million series A and brings total funding to US$230 million.
Parallel sells web search and research APIs for AI agents and said its customers include Clay, Harvey, Notion, and Opendoor.
The company also said more than 100,000 developers use its products and that banks and hedge funds are among its users.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Parallel wins enterprise customers by handling web data that standard search tools often miss
- Opendoor uses Parallel to automate homeowners association (HOA) research, cutting a 10-minute manual task to about two minutes for verification 1.
- Its system moves through inconsistent government websites to find out whether a property has an HOA and whether active litigation exists, details that matter in real estate deals 1.
- Legal AI platform Harvey relies on Parallel for search and for a private index the company built for hard-to-reach international legal sources 2.
- That index covers material such as court rulings from Brazil’s state tribunals and regulatory codes from Argentina, which supports Harvey’s growth in international markets 2.
Search claims, pricing, and publisher access shape the company’s pitch
- Parallel says its Deep Research API beats humans and leading AI models on benchmarks that include BrowseComp, an OpenAI benchmark for web-browsing research, and DeepResearch Bench 3.
- The company says that accuracy can support AI agents used for insurance underwriting risk assessment or sales data analysis 4.
- It sells a pay-per-query model with variable compute budgets, which it frames as easier to predict than token-based pricing 5.
- Part of the funding will go toward deals with online content owners and an “open market mechanism” meant to encourage websites to keep content available to AI systems, said Parag Agrawal 4.
