Schneider Electric expects its India data center business to grow faster than its broader operations in the country over the next four to five years.

Sumati Sahgal, vice president for Secure Power and Data Centres, Greater India Zone, said rising demand for AI-ready infrastructure is driving the growth outlook.

Sahgal said data centers account for 15% to 20% of Schneider Electric’s India business and are growing at a double-digit rate.

She said India’s data center capacity could rise to 6-7 gigawatts by 2030 from about 1.5 gigawatts now, with investment expanding beyond Mumbai and Chennai to states such as Gujarat and Rajasthan.

That aligns with a Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) study that put India’s installed data center capacity at nearly 1.5 gigawatts by mid-2025 and projected 4.5-6.5 gigawatts by 2030.

The study also noted grid evacuation and capacity limits in major data center clusters.

AI-ready facilities typically require higher rack densities and more advanced cooling.

Schneider Electric said demand in India is coming from hyperscalers, colocation operators, and enterprises seeking integrated infrastructure and services.
