Samsung, SK hynix push for chip material price cuts

Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are negotiating second-half substrate prices with South Korean suppliers. The chip giants aim to reverse first-quarter increases of 3% to 4%, saying gold and copper costs have stabilized.

The Korea Printed Circuit Association (KPCA), an industry body in South Korea, said some substrate suppliers have been asked to lower second-half prices.

KPCA has called for expanding raw material cost linkage mechanisms to mid-sized companies. The association warns that many remain outside pass-through schemes and would be more exposed if the price cuts go ahead.
