S Korea fintech firm acquires Investree’s scoring platform

South Korean fintech company PFC Technologies Inc. has acquired AIForesee, a credit scoring platform developed by Indonesian fintech lending firm Investree. The announcement was made through AIForesee’s official channels.

This acquisition comes as Investree is undergoing liquidation due to financial challenges, a process mandated by Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK).

Launched in 2022, AIForesee aims to improve credit assessments and support lending to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Led by CEO Christian Limawan, the platform uses AI and alternative data to assess financial health, payment behaviors, and business relationships.

It also analyzes trends, including social media activity, to provide a comprehensive evaluation of creditworthiness.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Alternative data transforms credit scoring amid massive market growth

AIForesee’s acquisition reflects the financial sector’s increasing recognition of the value of alternative data in credit decisions, particularly for emerging markets.

The alternative data market is currently valued at approximately $11 billion and is projected to grow explosively to $135.8 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of 52.1% 1.

This growth is driven by the need to assess creditworthiness for the estimated 1.4 billion people globally who lack traditional credit histories but could be viable borrowers 1.

AIForesee’s approach of using non-traditional variables like payment behavior and business relationships aligns with the industry shift toward more comprehensive risk assessment models.

The online lending market, valued at $10.7 billion in 2021 and expected to reach $20.5 billion by 2026, increasingly depends on these alternative data sources to make better lending decisions while managing risk 2.

For countries like Indonesia with large unbanked and underbanked populations, these technologies are particularly valuable in expanding financial inclusion while maintaining reasonable risk profiles.

2️⃣ Value preservation through technology spin-offs amid fintech failures

The AIForesee acquisition demonstrates how specialized technology units can retain value even when their parent companies collapse.
