Italian cybersecurity firm Exein nets $117.7m for APAC, US growth
Exein, a Rome-based embedded cybersecurity firm, has raised €100 million (US$117.7 million) in new funding to expand its operations, with a focus on Asia-Pacific and the US.
The round, which includes both equity and a financing facility from JP Morgan, brings Exein’s total funding for 2025 to €170 million (US$200.2 million).
Blue Cloud Ventures led the investment, with participation from HV Capital, Intrepid Growth Partners, and Geodesic Capital.
Exein said it will use the capital to support international growth, invest in mergers and acquisitions, and develop new security technology for connected devices.
The company’s platform is embedded in device firmware and is designed to help manufacturers detect and respond to cyber threats.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Exein’s equity split and valuation remain undisclosed despite the €100 million headline
- Exein has not said what share of the €100 million is equity or JP Morgan financing or its valuation. Debt adds repayment duties but avoids dilution, while equity sets a price, so the split would spell out if holders face dilution or if Exein leans on debt to grow.
- The €100 million follows a €70 million Series C led by Balderton Capital, a European venture capital firm, bringing 2025’s total to €170 million. Exein said it hit 450% year over year (YoY) growth after its Series B, and the pace hints at expansion or deals as it pursues acquisitions.
Taiwan’s ODM dominance creates partnership opportunities for embedded security vendors
- A Taipei office would put Exein close to Taiwan’s Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), which build over 90% of AI servers and ship 80% of all servers. Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, expects $30 billion in AI server revenue in 2025. ODMs are adding plants across Malaysia, India and Vietnam, which lifts demand for embedded security across supply chains.
- Vendors that offer over-the-air updates, software bill of materials (SBOM) compliance, public key infrastructure (PKI) for code signing or penetration testing can team up with ODMs like Wistron or Wiwynn or Mitac. As manufacturers expand beyond smartphones into Internet of Things (IoT), electric vehicles (EVs) and medical tech, they need firmware security to meet the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act plus the US Cyber Trust Mark.
