Renault Korea, Kakao Mobility partner on connected cars
Renault Korea and Kakao Mobility said on July 8 that they signed a memorandum of understanding to develop mobility services covering high-precision maps, software, infotainment, and vehicle connectivity.
The partnership includes high-precision maps and software for advanced driver assistance systems, as well as connected in-vehicle services.
The companies previously previewed the collaboration with a Grand Koleos concept vehicle featuring the Kakao T taxi driver app.
The Grand Koleos is Renault Korea’s first new-generation model developed in Korea and is central to the carmaker’s export plans.
The deal marks Kakao Mobility’s broader push into automotive partnerships. The company described the agreement as the start of more alliances with carmakers.
The partnership aligns with Renault’s Korea plans for software, connectivity, and vehicles that receive updates remotely. It also comes as South Korea has opened exports of high-precision map data under certain conditions.
