Reddit rolls out AI ad tools using user discussions

Reddit has launched two new AI advertising tools designed to help brands improve engagement on its platform.

Launched on June 16, 2025, the tools leverage user conversations to optimize ad campaigns.

The first tool, “Reddit Insights,” provides marketers with real-time data to identify trends and test campaign ideas.

The second feature, “Conversation Summary Add-ons,” enables brands to showcase selected positive user comments beneath advertisements.

This move aligns with a wider industry shift, as rivals like Snapchat and Pinterest also adopt AI ad tools amid growing demand for flexible, cost-efficient marketing.

The rollout comes as Reddit expects its Q2 revenue to beat forecasts, even with potential Google-related traffic risks and ongoing content moderation updates.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Smaller platforms weaponize AI to capture SMB ad dollars

Reddit’s AI ad tools reflect a broader competitive shift where platforms like Snapchat, Pinterest, and Reddit are strategically deploying AI to attract small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

This is a calculated move in a fiercely competitive landscape, as SMBs already represent significant revenue for these platforms. Reddit’s mid- and lower-funnel advertisers (which include many SMBs) account for 60% of its total ad revenue 1.

The strategy appears to be working for competitors as well, with Snapchat reporting meaningful SMB contribution to its 2024 ad revenue and Pinterest achieving 19% growth largely attributed to these smaller advertisers 2.

These platforms are developing specialized AI tools that specifically address SMB pain points, such as automated bidding, simplified campaign setup, and improved targeting, making advertising more accessible to businesses with limited resources and expertise.

The timing is strategic as these second-tier platforms aim to position themselves against established players like Meta and Google, which have historically dominated SMB digital advertising but may be vulnerable as advertisers seek alternatives in uncertain economic conditions.

2️⃣ Reddit’s AI pivot comes amid advertising industry recalibration

Reddit’s AI advertising push arrives during a significant market adjustment, with WPP Media recently cutting its global ad revenue growth forecast from 7.7% to 6% due to trade concerns and economic uncertainties 3.
