Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian joins TikTok US bid

Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and venture capitalist, has joined Frank McCourt’s effort to acquire TikTok’s US operations as a strategic adviser.

McCourt, leading “Project Liberty,” announced this on Mar. 3, highlighting Ohanian’s experience in social media and technology.

The initiative, dubbed “The People’s Bid,” focuses on user control over data and addressing privacy concerns, with Ohanian helping to validate and promote this vision.

The US government has given ByteDance a 75-day deadline to divest TikTok’s US operations due to national security concerns.

However, ByteDance has not set clear valuation terms or secured a banker, and McCourt suggested they might shut down operations instead of selling.

Other reported bidders include Jesse Tinsley, YouTube star MrBeast, and businessman Reid Rasner.

ByteDance has not commented on the ongoing bids.
