Rakuten Travel has launched an AI-powered hotel search tool on its smartphone site in Japan.

The new feature allows users to receive hotel recommendations by chatting in natural language about travel details like destination, length of stay, number of guests, budget, and preferences.

The AI agent draws on booking data, reviews, and accommodation options to suggest up to 30 hotels, which users can compare in a list or on a map.

Users can refine their search based on various criteria, and the AI offers suggestions to help narrow results.

Rakuten Travel says the tool is free and available to all users on its mobile site.

The company plans further updates based on user and accommodation provider feedback.
