Perplexity unveils ‘Deep Research’ for fast, in-depth AI
Perplexity has launched its “Deep Research” feature to support in-depth research tasks, offering detailed answers with citations in areas like finance, marketing, and product development.
Available on the web since Feb. 15, it will soon expand to Mac, iOS, and Android.
Users can select “Deep Research” for multi-step analysis, generating reports that can be exported as PDFs or shared as Perplexity Pages.
The tool scored 21.1% on Humanity’s Last Exam, outperforming Gemini Thinking (6.2%) and GPT-4o (3.3%) but falling short of OpenAI’s Deep Research (26.6%).
Unlike OpenAI’s US$200 monthly subscription, Perplexity offers a freemium model with limited free queries and unlimited access for subscribers.
It completes tasks in under three minutes, significantly faster than OpenAI’s tool, which takes 5 to 30 minutes.
While Perplexity prioritizes accessibility and speed, OpenAI targets enterprise users, and Google integrates with productivity tools.
