Perplexity AI makes its Comet browser publicly available

Perplexity AI has made its Comet browser publicly available for free after initially launching it for Perplexity Max subscribers in July 2025.

The US-based startup says Comet can perform web searches, assist with research, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

CEO Aravind Srinivas claimed Comet could increase individual productivity and reduce the need for some companies to hire extra staff, though these claims are unverified.

Srinivas estimated AI-driven productivity gains could add up to US$5 trillion to GDP, but economists say the impact on labor so far is limited.

Other tech firms, including Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, OpenAI, and Google, are also investing heavily in AI-enabled browsers and data center projects in 2025.
