OpenAI launches data residency to meet EU regulations

OpenAI launched data residency options for European customers on Feb. 6, allowing them to store and process data within Europe to meet General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements.

The feature applies to OpenAI’s API, enabling regional data processing for specific endpoints.

When enabled, API requests are processed within Europe without data retention.

The launch follows increased regulatory scrutiny in Europe.
