Nvidia completes $700m Run:ai acquisition after EU approval

Nvidia has finalized its US$700 million acquisition of Israeli AI firm Run:ai after receiving European Union approval earlier this month despite facing antitrust scrutiny due to its significant market position.

The European Commission investigated the acquisition over competition concerns in the GPU market, where Nvidia holds an estimated 80% share.

It concluded earlier in December that the deal would not harm competition and granted unconditional approval.

European regulators are increasingly scrutinizing tech companies’ acquisitions of startups due to concerns about potential impacts on competition.

Run:ai provides tools to optimize AI infrastructure and plans to open-source its software, a move that could enhance compatibility beyond Nvidia’s GPUs and address competition concerns as the AI sector continues to develop.
