MicroStrategy acquires $1.1b in bitcoin
MicroStrategy, a business intelligence firm, has acquired 11,000 bitcoins, increasing its total holdings.
The purchase occurred between January 13 and January 20, 2025, and was disclosed in a filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Jan. 20.
The acquisition cost approximately US$1.1 billion, averaging US$101,191 per bitcoin.
MicroStrategy financed this purchase through the sale of 3,012,072 shares, generating the same amount.
Following this transaction, MicroStrategy’s total bitcoin holdings now stand at 461,000, valued at over US$48 billion at current market prices.
The company’s total investment of US$29.3 billion equates to an average acquisition cost of US$63,610 per bitcoin, including fees.
