Micron to invest $7b in Singapore AI chip plant
Micron Technology Inc. plans to invest US$7 billion to expand its manufacturing capacity in Singapore in the coming years.
The company broke ground on a new facility on Wednesday, which is expected to begin operations in 2026.
The facility will focus on packaging high-bandwidth memory chips, essential components in AI data centers, and is projected to create approximately 1,400 jobs.
This move reflects a trend among chipmakers diversifying their operations in Southeast Asia to lessen reliance on China and Taiwan amid ongoing US-China tensions.
