Meta starts testing its first in-house AI chip
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has begun testing its first in-house chip designed for training AI systems.
This initiative aims to reduce reliance on external chip suppliers, particularly Nvidia.
The new chip is part of Meta’s Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) series.
It is currently deployed on a small scale for testing, with plans for large-scale production dependent on test results.
