Meta reportedly requires $14b for new reactor projects
Oklo and TerraPower will need to invest over US$14 billion in new nuclear reactors to support Meta’s data centers, according to BloombergNEF estimates.
The analysis covers planned projects by Oklo and TerraPower, two US-based firms developing next-generation nuclear reactors.
Neither company has regulatory approval or an operational commercial reactor.
Oklo’s planned Ohio campus would require 16 reactors, with each reactor estimated to cost US$350 million to US$400 million.
TerraPower’s Meta-backed projects include two 345-megawatt reactors, with an initial estimated cost of US$4 billion per unit, though both the company and analysts expect future costs to drop as more reactors are built.
Oklo’s first systems could start providing power by 2030, while TerraPower’s projects may be complete by 2032.
