MediaTek eyes sourcing chip production from India

MediaTek prepared to manufacture its chips in India once semiconductor fabrication facilities are operational in the country.

The Taiwan-based company designs and contracts the production of chips used in smartphones, automotive, and home electronics for brands like Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo, and Vivo.

MediaTek currently outsources chip fabrication to foundries such as TSMC, Intel Foundry Services, and GlobalFoundries.

Anku Jain, MediaTek’s India managing director, said localization would make business sense as electronics and automotive manufacturing rises in India.

India is offering a US$10 billion incentive program to encourage semiconductor production, with about 10 major projects in development.
