The Dow Jones Industrial Average initially rose nearly 900 points but ended the day down 130 points, or 0.34%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite saw gains of 0.5% and 1%, respectively.

The fluctuations were triggered by rumors that the Trump administration might pause tariffs, which briefly boosted market confidence.

However, a White House official later dismissed these rumors as false, and President Trump announced the possibility of imposing an additional 50% tariff on China, escalating trade tensions.
