Kalshi plans perpetual futures beyond crypto
Kalshi, a US-based prediction market platform, plans to expand perpetual futures beyond digital assets after the products generated more than US$5.5 billion in trading volume in their first two weeks, co-founder Tarek Mansour said at a Bloomberg conference.
The move follows a May 29, 2026, order from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission approving KalshiEX LLC’s BTCPERP under Regulation 40.3, the first US perpetual futures contract approved by the agency.
A same-day policy statement set a case-by-case path for perpetual contracts tied to asset classes not covered by that order.
Perpetual futures do not expire. Crypto markets typically use periodic funding payments between long and short traders to keep prices aligned with the underlying spot market.
However, leverage and ongoing funding costs can amplify losses, particularly for retail traders.
Mansour said World Cup and NBA Finals trading also pushed Kalshi above US$1 billion in daily volume for three straight days.
The CFTC has also requested comment on market integrity, customer protection, and retail trading risks tied to perpetual futures as the market expands.
