Intel to spin off its VC arm into independent firm

Intel plans to separate its venture capital division, Intel Capital, into an independent firm by the second half of 2025, allowing it to seek funding from external investors.

Currently managing US$5 billion in assets, Intel Capital has been fully funded by Intel, but the move is part of broader restructuring efforts following significant market share losses and financial declines, including its worst stock performance in 2022.

While Intel has not announced leadership changes within Intel Capital, the workforce will transition with the division as it becomes independent.

Intel is also planning to spin off Altera, its FPGA chip maker, and operate its foundry business as a standalone unit.
