Indosat taps Nokia to expand 5G network in Indonesia

Nokia and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison said they will modernize Indosat’s mobile network in Indonesia.

The project includes the deployment of 5G network technology. The upgrade is expected to improve capacity and coverage. It will also support AI-based network services.

The deal would build on Indosat’s existing 5G rollout.

The operator’s 5G network covered eight cities as of late 2023.

The announcement comes as Indonesia launched auctions new spectrum to support wider 4G and 5G deployment.

Nokia described AI-RAN as using AI to optimize efficiency in radio networks and support edge AI workloads, suggesting the partnership’s AI element relates to future network architecture as well as near-term network upgrades.
