President Prabowo Subianto announced a holiday bonus for online motorcycle taxi drivers, online taxi drivers, and delivery couriers during a press conference at the State Palace in Jakarta on Mar. 10.

The event included notable attendees such as Patrick Walujo, CEO of GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GOTO), and Anthony Tan, founder and CEO of Grab, along with representatives from both companies’ driver communities.

Prabowo called on online transportation companies to provide cash bonuses to their drivers in advance of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday. He stressed that the distribution of bonuses should reflect the activity levels of the workers.

The specific amount and distribution mechanism for the bonuses will be determined by the Ministry of Manpower, which will issue an official circular soon.

Previously, Minister Yassierli said the bonuses should be provided in cash, with a formula considering factors like service type and work hours being developed.

This development comes as both platforms are reportedly considering merging.
