India’s Nykaa parent enters UK market with new products
FSN E-Commerce Ventures, which operates the Nykaa platform, is expanding its Kay Beauty brand to the UK through a partnership with Ulta Beauty-owned Space NK.
The Mumbai-based company will launch Kay Beauty products in 13 UK stores and online, marking its latest expansion outside India.
Kay Beauty, developed with Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif in 2019, will offer cosmetics for various skin tones along with specialty items like kohl.
FSN faces strong competition in the UK from established brands such as L’Oreal and Estee Lauder.
The company has previously expanded abroad, opening a retail outlet in Dubai and setting up subsidiaries in Qatar and Oman.
FSN reported gross merchandise value of about 21 billion rupees from its in-house brands in the year ended March 31.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Established players dominate the UK beauty market Nykaa aims to penetrate
Nykaa’s UK expansion faces formidable competition in a market dominated by global giants with deep resources and established relationships.
The £30 billion UK cosmetics market is controlled by major players like L’Oréal, Unilever, and Estée Lauder, who have spent decades building brand recognition and securing premium shelf space1.
L’Oréal alone generates over $40 billion in global sales, giving it massive advertising power and negotiating leverage that dwarfs Nykaa’s resources2.
The UK market’s 4.12% projected growth rate through 2030 means competition for market share will be intense, as established brands fight to maintain their positions while new entrants like Nykaa seek to gain ground1.
This competitive landscape explains why Nykaa is starting with a focused approach through just 13 Space NK stores rather than attempting a broader market entry that would require significantly more capital and resources.
2️⃣ Gen Z’s beauty spending power creates massive growth opportunity for digitally-native brands
Nykaa’s international expansion timing aligns with a generational shift that could favor digitally-native beauty brands over traditional players.
