India’s Info Edge Q1 profit rises 32% to $39m

Info Edge, the parent company of Naukri.com, reported a 32% rise in net profit for the quarter ended June 30, reaching 342.8 crore rupee (US$39.2 million) from 258.8 crore rupee (US$29.6 million) year-on-year.

Operating revenue grew 17% to 790.8 crore rupee (US$90.4 million).

Sequentially, net profit fell from 677.8 crore rupee (US$77.5 million) in the previous quarter due to slower billing growth in recruitment and higher ad and employee expenses.

Billings in the recruitment business rose 9% year-on-year to 470 crore rupee (US$54.5 million), but growth slowed compared to the previous quarter.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ AI’s dual impact on job markets is materializing ahead of predictions

Info Edge CEO Hitesh Oberoi’s observation about AI creating “more demand for premium talent than regular sort of job seekers” aligns with global employment transformation data.

According to the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Future of Jobs Report, AI and automation are projected to create 170 million new jobs while displacing 92 million by 2030, resulting in a net gain of 78 million positions 1.

This data supports Oberoi’s assessment that AI adoption is creating a bifurcated job market where specialized, high-skill roles see increased demand while routine positions face displacement.

The trend explains why Info Edge is experiencing “softness in demand” overall while noting stronger interest in premium talent. Companies are simultaneously reducing hiring for traditional roles while actively seeking AI-capable professionals.

This shift represents a fundamental change in how recruitment platforms like Naukri.com must position their services, potentially requiring different strategies for different talent segments as the market increasingly polarizes between high-skill and displaced workers.
