India’s Goldi Solar raises $171m led by Havells

Goldi Solar has raised US$171 million in a funding round led by Havells India.

Goldi Solar is a solar module manufacturer based in India.

Other investors include Ambit Global Private Client, Nikhil Kamath of Zerodha, Shahi Exports, SRF Transnational Holdings, and NSFO Ventures.

The funds will be used to expand manufacturing and solar cell production in Gujarat.

SBI Capital Markets and Saraf and Partners advised on the deal.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Competitive cell tech will drive demand alongside scale

  • Goldi Solar raised $171 million to reach 14.7 GW of modules and 4 GW of cells by FY27. Utility buyers face tight margins, so its cells must clear India’s June 2026 domestic sourcing rule at sharp prices 123.
  • India has 26 GW of cell output against 100+ GW of modules, which is a bottleneck. The plan works only if Goldi makes cells on India’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM-II) and hits TOPCon or heterojunction (HJT) efficiencies used by rivals 32.
  • The announcement did not share cell tech or commissioning dates. Watch for ALMM-II approval before June 2026, or module ramp could outrun viable cell supply 2.

Cell supply gap opens lanes for equipment and compliance tech

  • India targets 115 GW of cell output by FY27 against 26 GW today, which leaves an 89 GW buildout. Equipment vendors for TOPCon and HJT lines can sell quick installs, while investors back 25–30 GW expected by early 2026 23.
  • SaaS tools for traceability (supply-chain tracking) and ALMM checks should see more buyers as developers must prove cell origin. Smaller makers entering the market raise quality worries 43.
  • Vendors of encapsulants (polymer sheets that laminate cells), solar glass, and tinned copper interconnects (tin-coated copper ribbons that link them) can ride India’s push to localize parts. Anti-dumping duties on Chinese cells plus probes into encapsulant imports from South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam lift that case 56.
