India’s CarTrade, CarDekho parent end acquisition talks

CarTrade Tech has ended talks to acquire CarDekho and BikeDekho from Girnar Software, with both sides deciding not to proceed with the deal.

CarTrade Tech is an India-based online automobile marketplace, while CarDekho and BikeDekho are classified platforms also focused on vehicles.

The discussions, first announced on November 11, 2025 would have merged two key players in India’s automotive classified sector.

CarDekho, founded in 2007 in Jaipur, is backed by investors including Peak XV, Hillhouse, and Google Capital, and was valued at US$1.2 billion in 2021.

CarTrade Tech, which also owns CarWale, BikeWale, OLX India, and Shriram Automall, had a market capitalization of about US$1.7 billion as of November 27, 2025.

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Talks end without reasons shared; CarTrade leans on current brands

  • On November 27, 2025 CarTrade Tech and Girnar Software (parent of CarDekho and BikeDekho) ended their talks. They will not proceed with the proposed deal, with no reason given in the exchange filing 1.
  • They first disclosed preliminary discussions on November 11, 2025 about a possible consolidation of India’s automotive classifieds businesses 1.
  • CarTrade will keep growing CarWale, BikeWale and OLX India plus Shriram Automall 12.
  • CarDekho became a unicorn in October 2021 after a $250 million pre-IPO round 1. Girnar exited used-car retail in 2023, and FY24 losses narrowed by over 40% to Rs 340 crore 1. InsuranceDekho is its online insurance marketplace, and it grew sharply 1.

What this means for dealers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)

  • Vehicle retail sales reached 19,64,547 units in August 2025, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) 3. With no consolidation, many dealers will keep a presence on CarTrade and CarDekho platforms 3.
