Indian electric fleet Refex appoints ex-BluSmart CEO as chief
Refex Mobility, an Indian electric mobility solutions provider, has appointed former BluSmart Fleet CEO Anirudh Arun as its new chief executive, according to a stock exchange filing.
Arun exited BluSmart during its debt repayment crisis in March, along with other senior executives.
Refex Mobility, formerly known as Refex EVeelz, also named Ankit Grover, previously BluSmart’s AVP of global growth, as chief business officer.
Earlier this year, Refex Industries called off a deal to buy nearly 3,000 electric vehicles from Gensol Engineering; ET reported this was due to the condition of cars used by BluSmart.
Refex is one of the fleet operators for Uber and had partnered to deploy 1,000 electric cars for the ride-hailing platform by 2026.
The company has also increased its stake in subsidiary Venwind Refex Power Ltd., raising its equity holding from 67% to 75.5% by converting part of an outstanding loan into equity shares.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Crisis-driven talent mobility accelerates competitive advantages in EV sector
BluSmart’s financial collapse has created a talent acquisition opportunity for competitors like Refex Mobility.
The ride-hailing company faced severe difficulties when its associated entity Gensol Engineering accumulated ₹1,146 crore in debt by early 2024, triggering a leadership exodus in March that included CEO Anirudh Arun and other senior executives1.
Refex immediately capitalized on this crisis by appointing Arun as CEO and former BluSmart AVP Ankit Grover as Chief Business Officer, essentially acquiring proven EV mobility expertise without the associated operational baggage.
This talent migration pattern shows how industry disruptions often benefit healthier competitors who can attract experienced leadership teams seeking stable platforms to continue their careers.
The timing is particularly strategic since these executives bring deep understanding of both the opportunities and pitfalls in India’s EV mobility market, potentially helping Refex avoid similar operational mistakes.
2️⃣ Rapid fleet scaling reveals the capital-intensive nature of EV mobility success
Refex’s expansion from 24 vehicles in March 2023 to nearly 1,400 EVs represents one of the fastest growth trajectories in India’s corporate mobility sector2.
