Hyundai Motor Company and Waymo have established a multi-year partnership to incorporate Waymo’s generation autonomous technology into Hyundai’s all-electric IONIQ 5 SUV.

In the initial phase of their partnership, Hyundai will assemble IONIQ 5 vehicles at its new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America facility in the US state of Georgia.

Hyundai will modify these vehicles to integrate Waymo’s autonomous technology, incorporating features such as redundant hardware and automated doors.

Initial on-road testing of the Waymo-enabled IONIQ 5s is projected to commence by late 2025, with the vehicles expected to be available to Waymo One riders in subsequent years.
