Hyundai backs South Korea’s EV charging system
Hyundai Motor Group said on July 7 it will work with the South Korean government to create a national certification system for plug-and-charge electric vehicle (EV) technology. The group signed a memorandum of understanding on July 6 with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Korea Environment Corp.
Plug and charge lets EV drivers start charging and pay by plugging in a cable. Hyundai said the technology automatically handles charging, and payment. Instead of requiring a membership card or credit card, it uses encrypted authentication between the vehicle and charging station.
Hyundai said it will transfer its certification technology to the government to help expand plug-and-charge services across more EV charging stations in South Korea.
The move extends the group’s EV charging efforts.
