Huawei Technologies will launch its mobile operating system, HarmonyOS Next, on Tuesday, as it seeks to compete with platforms such as Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.

This launch comes as Huawei seeks to enhance domestic technological capabilities in light of ongoing US sanctions.

HarmonyOS Next will be available on the Mate 60 series smartphones, the Mate X5 foldable device, and the MatePad Pro tablet.

Unlike earlier versions built on Android, this newest iteration will discontinue support for Android-based applications.

Huawei said over 10,000 applications and services have already been developed for the system.
