Google launches AI coding tool Jules with GitHub integration
Google has launched Jules, its AI coding tool, after a brief beta phase.
The tool uses Gemini 2.5 Pro and lets developers delegate tasks asynchronously via GitHub-integrated Google Cloud virtual machines.
Jules now has tiered pricing, starting with a free plan for 15 daily tasks.
Paid plans are set at US$19.99 and US$124.90 per month, offering higher task limits.
Google updated Jules’ privacy policy to clarify that data from public repositories may be used for AI training, while private repository data is not used.
During beta testing, Google said thousands of developers used Jules, resulting in over 140,000 public code improvements.
Recent updates include deeper GitHub integration, the ability to start tasks from empty repositories, and features for faster task execution.
Jules has logged 2.3 million visits worldwide since public beta, with India, the US, and Vietnam as top traffic sources.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Beta usage data drives strategic pricing optimization
Google’s approach with Jules demonstrates how companies use beta periods as market research tools to optimize their pricing strategies.
The company reduced the free tier from 60 daily tasks during beta to just 15 tasks in the production release, with Google’s Kathy Korevec explaining that “the 60-task cap helped us study how developers use Jules and gave us the information we needed to design the new packaging”1.
This pricing adjustment indicates that most beta users didn’t actually need the higher task limits, allowing Google to create a more accessible entry point while encouraging heavy users toward paid tiers at $19.99 and $124.99 monthly.
This strategy aligns with how other enterprise software companies use freemium models to convert users, with the added complexity of measuring AI usage patterns that are unique to AI tools.
2️⃣ Asynchronous AI agents target different workflow needs than synchronous tools
