Google Cloud deepens Philippines AI, cyber partnership
The Philippines’ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the government agency overseeing the country’s digital agenda, said on June 22 that it had expanded a multi-year collaboration with Google Cloud to bring AI, cybersecurity, and connectivity to public services.
In the initial rollout, Gemini Enterprise and Google Workspace are available through the government’s eMarketplace, a public procurement platform launched in 2024.
More than 50,000 public servants will get access first, and DICT plans to expand access to more than 200,000 public servants within 18 months.
For cybersecurity, DICT said the National Security Operations Center has deployed Google Cloud Cybershield, which provides AI- and intelligence-driven cyber defense nationwide.
Teams from 56 government agencies have joined and been trained, with 90 agencies targeted by end-June 2026.
The collaboration also complements the TPU and Apricot subsea cable systems, local terrestrial networks, and DICT-managed connectivity infrastructure that support government connectivity and public Wi-Fi sites.
The announcement comes as the Philippines is still drafting guidelines for ethical and trustworthy AI use in government and has yet to enact binding AI rules.
