German energy startup Enter nets $21.2m to green European homes
Enter, a Germany-based platform specializing in energy-efficient building renovations, has secured €20 million (US$21.16 million) in a series B funding round.
This investment increases the company’s total funding to €40 million (US$46.4 million) since its founding in 2020.
The funding round included contributions from existing investors Coatue, Target Global, noa, Partech, and Foundamental.
The recent funding will aid Enter in scaling its operations to improve the energy efficiency of Europe’s existing housing stock.
It also welcomed new investor SE Ventures, the venture arm of Schneider Electric.
Enter’s platform enables the digital analysis of buildings, evaluating their materials, energy efficiency, and renovation needs. It uses AI to recommend customized renovation strategies based on CO₂ pricing, subsidy programs, and energy costs.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Europe’s building renovation represents a multi-trillion opportunity with massive efficiency gaps
The scale of Europe’s energy renovation challenge is unprecedented, with over 180 million buildings requiring comprehensive energy upgrades by 2050, representing a market worth trillions.
This urgency is driven by buildings accounting for 40% of EU energy use and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions, making it a critical focus for climate action 1.
The market opportunity is amplified by the age of Europe’s building stock, with over 50% of residential buildings constructed before 1970 with poor insulation standards 2.
Despite this massive potential, the current renovation rate in the EU stands at only 1%, highlighting the significant gap between targets and implementation 3.
This slow pace is particularly concerning as the EU has legislated ambitious targets for achieving zero-emission building stock by 2050 through the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 1.
Enter’s approach addresses these inefficiencies by scaling to thousands of buildings quarterly, demonstrating how technology can accelerate the pace of renovation necessary to meet climate goals.
2️⃣ Digitalization is transforming a historically fragmented renovation industry
