Foxconn partners Poland EV venture on factory, R&D hub
ElectroMobility Poland, a state-backed EV venture, is partnering with Taiwan’s Foxconn and Foxtron Vehicle Technologies to build an electric vehicle factory and R&D hub in Jaworzno in southern Poland.
The move revives plans for a domestic EV industry.
EMP said the sides are discussing a possible joint venture and aim to sign binding agreements in the second half of 2026.
The project would include body and paint shops, battery and electric drive assembly, and final vehicle assembly plus a research center focused on software and data analytics.
Funding would come from Poland’s National Recovery Plan and the Reprivatisation Fund after EMP’s recapitalization in December 2025.
EMP was founded in 2016 by four state-controlled utilities but the project has faced repeated delays and strategy shifts.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Foxconn is chasing several EV deals at once
- On the same day as the Polish announcement, Mitsubishi Motors and Foxtron Vehicle Technologies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), a non-binding preliminary agreement 1. It covers an EV model that Foxtron would supply to Mitsubishi Motors as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM). That means Foxtron would build the vehicle for Mitsubishi to sell under its own brand 1.
- Under the MOU, Foxtron will develop the EV. Yulon Motor, a Taiwanese automaker, will build it in Taiwan for launch in Australia and New Zealand in the second half of 2026 1.
- The partnership uses Foxtron’s Contract Design and Manufacturing Service (CDMS) model. Under it, Foxtron designs and builds vehicles for other brands on a modular, open platform that can be tailored for different customers 2.
- Foxconn is also building up its own supply base. It has started running a battery gigafactory, a very large battery plant, in southern Taiwan that makes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for electric vehicles 3.
Foxconn is trying to become a platform EV partner
- The deal fits Foxconn’s plan to build an ‘Android system of the EV industry’ through its MIH open platform, a shared EV development platform meant to let several companies build vehicles from common components and software 3.
- The approach could lower entry barriers. Car companies and new EV brands could launch EVs without huge in-house manufacturing spending 3.
- It also fits Foxconn’s effort to spread manufacturing and supply chains beyond China, with planned growth in places including Europe 3.
- For established automakers, contract manufacturing could make vehicle assembly more standardized. That may shift competition toward software and branding.
