The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) added Digitalsystem Technology, a California-based information technology company, to its Covered List of communications equipment and services deemed to pose national security risks on July 7.

The agency also denied the Los Angeles-based company permission to provide international telecommunications services, saying it could be exploited in ways that threaten US communications and law enforcement interests.

The FCC cited Digitalsystem’s links to Chinese telecom firms including PCCW, China Unicom, and China Mobile, as well as its ownership by a Chinese national.

It also pointed to references on the company’s website that had listed Huawei, Dahua, Hikvision, and ZTE as partners before later changing them to clients.

The agency opened a comment cycle on the company in April.

The FCC’s Covered List applies to equipment and services it deems security risks under the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act.

Covered equipment cannot be authorized for import, marketing, or sale in the US communications market.
