Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, the founder and former CEO of Binance, will take an active role at YZi Labs, which was formerly known as Binance Labs.

This announcement follows Zhao’s recent legal issues, including serving four months in the US on money laundering-related charges.

It is unclear what Zhao’s official title will be at the rebranded organization, but he is named as an “intern” on the company’s site.

YZi Labs, now shifting its focus beyond crypto, will invest in sectors like AI and biotech.

Zhao will offer guidance and investment advice to startups, while Ella Zhang, former head of Binance Labs, will return as head of YZi Labs.
