Ex-Baidu vet’s AI robot startup Nüwa raises $7m
Nüwa Robotics, a Chinese embodied intelligence startup founded in February 2026, has raised 50 million yuan (about US$7 million) in an angel round. The round led by Blue Lake Capital, with Butong Capital and Gongqingcheng Puyi Investment participating.
The financing follows a seed round about two months earlier, led by the Plug and Play China Fund.
Nüwa is developing what it calls a World Traversal Model to help robots navigate corridors, stairs, elevators, and other indoor and outdoor spaces. The system allows robots to move using mapless or light-map navigation instead of high-definition maps.
Founder Yang Ruigang previously led Baidu’s Autonomous Driving and Robotics Lab and served as CTO at autonomous trucking company Inceptio Technology.
Nüwa said it planned to deploy the software in one or two pilot scenarios in 2026, including various industrial scenarios.
The round comes as embodied AI is helping drive record funding for robotics startups in China.
Broader deployment may also be helped by China allowing pilots of delivery robots in some areas.
