Europe drives EV growth as June regs rise 7%

Global registrations of battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles rose 7% year on year to 2 million in June, consultancy Benchmark Mineral Intelligence said.

The increase marked a fourth straight month of growth, with stronger demand in Europe offsetting weaker sales in China and North America.

Europe led growth, with electric vehicle registrations rising 31% to about 530,000 units, a record for June.

Benchmark said Europe remained the main driver of electric vehicle growth.

In China, registrations fell 11% to around 1 million vehicles.

In North America, registrations dropped 13% after the US ended electric vehicle tax credits for purchases made after September 30, 2025.

Benchmark said first-half global volumes rose 2%.

It added that Chinese automakers continued expanding overseas amid weaker demand in their home market.
