DeepMirror lands BYD, GoerTek funding for spatial, embodied AI

DeepMirror, a Chinese startup specializing in spatial intelligence technology, has successfully completed a funding round worth 8 digits of US dollars. The investment was led by electronics manufacturer Goertek and electric vehicle maker BYD, with additional participation from an undisclosed Hong Kong-based family office.

The newly acquired funds will be allocated to accelerate the development and enhancement of DeepMirror’s spatial intelligence technology. Spatial intelligence, often referred to as Spatial AI, refers to a machine’s ability to understand and interact with its physical environment through perception, navigation, and reasoning.

The company also aims to bolster the commercialization of its solutions and integrate spatial intelligence with embodied intelligence applications across various sectors. Embodied intelligence involves the integration of artificial intelligence into physical systems, enabling them to interact with the physical world, such as in robotics or autonomous vehicles.

This investment aligns with the increasing demand for advanced spatial intelligence solutions, a trend driven by ongoing advancements in artificial intelligence and smart technologies. As DeepMirror seeks to scale its offerings, it operates within the evolving and competitive market for embodied intelligence.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Strategic investments signal spatial intelligence’s expanding role in multiple industries

The investments by GoerTek (electronics manufacturer) and BYD (electric vehicle maker) reflect how spatial intelligence technology is becoming crucial across diverse sectors beyond traditional mapping applications.

This follows broader market trends, as the global spatial intelligence software market is projected to grow from $8.2 billion in 2024 to $16.5 billion by 2033, representing an 8.5% CAGR 1.

Chenjing’s technology specifically focuses on perception platforms for indoor and outdoor scenarios using advanced technologies like large vision models and multi-sensor fusion, enabling applications from smart ports to urban governance 2.

This investment pattern aligns with the broader spatial computing market, which is expected to grow from $168 billion in 2024 to $637 billion by 2032, driven by demand for enhanced human-computer interaction and immersive digital experiences 3.

The participation of companies from different sectors indicates spatial intelligence is becoming a foundational technology that bridges physical and digital environments, similar to how GIS evolved from specialized tools to widely accessible platforms 4.

2️⃣ China’s innovation surge prioritizes embodied intelligence as a strategic technology

Chenjing’s focus on “embodied intelligence” aligns with China’s broader push to become a global innovation leader in frontier technologies, moving beyond manufacturing toward advanced AI applications.

The Chinese government is investing heavily in R&D, with over $300 billion allocated to boost high-tech industries including AI, semiconductors, and spatial technologies 5.

Chenjing’s development of autonomous evolution systems that allow robots to learn from environmental changes represents the practical application of China’s national AI acceleration initiative 2.
