Coupang said on July 10 it will rebrand Coupang Pay as Rocket Pay and expand it to external online merchants, and later offline stores. The service was previously  limited to Coupang, Coupang Play, and Coupang Eats.

The company said Rocket Pay will support bank accounts, credit cards, and debit cards, with a phased rollout starting with online partner merchants later this year.

The move pushes Coupang further into a payments market led by incumbents such as Naver Pay and Kakao Pay.

Naver Pay reported that 56% of its first-quarter payment volume came from external merchants. The company already offers Naver Pay beyond Naver Shopping through affiliated merchant sites and offline acceptance.
