Chinese eVTOL startup Volant raises $148m series C+
Volant Aerotech said on May 29 it raised nearly 1 billion yuan (US$148 million) in a series C+ round led by China Life Investment.
The funding will support flight tests, airworthiness certification, and supply chain integration for its passenger aircraft.
The round included Minjin Investment, NIO Capital, CoStone Capital, and existing shareholder China Internet Investment Fund.
Volant’s VE25-100 is a compound-wing eVTOL for commercial passenger transport, designed to carry five passengers and one pilot, with a 200-400 km range.
Volant said the model completed a piloted test flight in October 2025.
The company is targeting certification and commercial deliveries by 2027.
Its certification basis was finalized in April, a milestone in China’s approval process for high-capacity manned eVTOL aircraft.
China’s regulator granted approvals to EHang’s EH216-S, a pilotless passenger-carrying eVTOL, although operational certification remains a separate step before commercial service.
Volant said its backlog exceeds 1,900 aircraft worth more than 47.5 billion yuan (US$7.01 billion), including more than 500 overseas orders.
