China-based Apple supplier BOE faces US military ties review

A provision in the latest US defense spending bill would require the Pentagon to assess whether BOE Technology Group should be designated as a Chinese military company.

BOE, a China-based display panel maker, is listed as an official supplier for Apple.

If enacted, the measure wouldn’t immediately restrict BOE’s US business but could block it from joining the US military supply chain.

The amendment is part of the National Defense Authorization Act, which passed key congressional committees in July and is expected to become law later this year.

This marks the first time the Defense Department has been asked to consider BOE for the military company list.

BOE and Apple have not commented.
