Chery to help Indian firm JSW to launch EVs by 2027

China’s Chery Automobile will supply technology and components to India’s JSW Group to help launch its EV brand by 2027.

The deal includes a one-time technology transfer fee and ongoing royalties but no equity partnership, aligning with India’s restrictions on Chinese investments.

Chery confirmed it will provide components for JSW-branded vehicles, while JSW said core technology will be co-developed with KPIT Technologies and LTIMindtree.

JSW plans to begin manufacturing passenger EVs in Maharashtra by 2027 and will start producing electric trucks and buses in 2026.

The new EV brand will operate separately from JSW’s existing joint venture with China’s SAIC Motor.
