Cars24 cuts losses as AI lowers operating costs

Cars24 said its adjusted net revenue rose 27% year on year to 14.1 billion rupees (US$149 million) in the year ended March 2026.

Its Ebitda loss narrowed 36% to 3.6 billion rupees (US$37.6 million), weeks after two founders left executive roles.

The company turned Ebitda positive in January, said founder and CEO Vikram Chopra. Wider use of AI helped cut marketing, technology, and refurbishment costs.

The SoftBank and Alpha Wave Ventures-backed firm said loan disbursals at its financing unit rose 57% in October to March.

The update comes as Cars24 worked toward a potential IPO and a move of its domicile from Singapore to India.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Profit plans lean on warranties, deals, and more services

  • Cars24 is adding insurance and buyback guarantees to become an ownership platform, opening higher-margin revenue beyond cost cuts 1.
  • In the fragmented used-car market, it offers a 30-day return policy and a “lifetime warranty” to raise buyer confidence 2.
  • It acquired Team-BHP, an automobile community platform. It added CarInfo, a vehicle information platform, to stay involved through the ownership journey 3.

Founder step-backs put the focus on steadier execution

  • Two co-founders stepped back from daily executive work, a move often seen before a public listing when companies trade rapid expansion for steadier execution 3.
  • The shift comes with a wider reshaping. Cars24 closed Inspare, its business-to-business (B2B) spare parts unit, and left AutoPilot, its driver-on-demand service, to center attention on the core business before an IPO 2.
  • Risk remains. Cars24 has faced customer complaints over service problems such as delays in vehicle registration certificate (RC) transfers 2.
  • Investors will test whether the savings drive deepens those operating gaps, which could affect valuation 2.
